Psyche Delico & onBLUE

First off, I want to say congratulations to Psyche Delico for almost getting a smut manga into Chill Chill’s top five ranking.

Glorious, considering Chill Chill’s higher ranking is usually reserved for deep, powerful, heart-wrenching manga or sugary sweet fluffy ones that leave you feeling light and airy like cotton candy after you finish reading them. Or just generally for mangaka who are popular on a very large scale. That she landed a smut manga published under Junet in the top six (and maybe in the top five, since it’s only been out a month?) after years of not publishing a single thing and not exactly having a huge circle of fans means that she did a pretty damn smashing job. The book even sold out on Amazon for a short amount of time. Truly brilliant. Good job, Psyche Delico!

Another thing I wanted to talk about is onBLUE, a new BL anthology with a rather striking lineup.

Pretty much brimming with the goodness of Yamanaka Hiko. This anthology started out as a bit of a  mystery to me and I originally was under the impression it would be a second ITAN: a josei  anthology that recruited a lot o BL mangaka. I don’t remember which line it was originally credited under, FEEL YOUNG or something, but it was a josei/shoujo line and the only mangaka it referenced for the first month or two after its release announcement were Asou Mitsuaki and Yamanaka Hiko. Then Kumota Haruko announced that she would be in it, which upped the excitement even more. Now the cover has been released and I know it’s a BL anthology so I’ll definitely be checking it out. If it were josei I might have been able to let it go, but I’m not one to pass up BL stories by Kumota Haruko, MatsuMieco, Koiwazurai Shibito, Est Em, Yamanaka Hiko, etc. That’s too much temptation for one girl to handle!

    onBLUE snagged my attention about two days ago when I was surfing for new releases… into the cart it went! SO excited. /o/ Certainly ending the year with a bang.

    I did not just see Yamanaka Hiko there! I DID NOT!!! *Runs away from the temptation of onBlue* D8 What’s worse is that Yamanaka Hiko and Yoneda Kou talks written on the cover… You’re right, I’m pretty sure I’m going to die poor now. *weeps*

      rofl pretend you never saw it!

      I know what you mean about dying poor ugh. I used to think scrapbooking and crafts was my most expensive hobby by far, but now I’ve definitely realized that BL manga takes much more of my monthly income than I’d like to admit. orz;;

    What is the difference between an anthology and a plain magazine (like Hertz)? because from the looks of it, anthologies are serialized, too…

    • ふう子 says :

      An anthology is generally of higher quality than a regular magazine. Regular magazines use cheap paper, and have more advertisements and random miscellaneous stuff within the book that may or may not actually be related to the manga within. Anthologies tend to be more serious and straightforward with only manga and maybe an interview or two at most.
