So as I said, part one of my purchase came in the mail today and I haven’t really even started looking through many of them yet but I nonetheless wanted to talk a bit (or maybe a lot idk) about a specific book I bought because I think there’s a bit of a misunderstanding of what the book is. And that book would be the recently-released Light BL e Youkoso which a lot of people seem to be thinking is an anthology of light, sweet BL stories but actually it’s a guidebook.
As you can see the cover is by Kumota Haruko so its garnered a lot of fanfair. And it’s a really good book, albeit not what a lot of people are probably expecting, so I will try to go over what this book has to offer if not actual comics.
I figured I should do a quick post before bed since it seems like there are quite a few covers I’ve been getting excited over lately.
The Sora to Hara one is so beautiful and really fitting for the story—whimsical and sweet without any of the romantic and erotic undertones a lot of BL covers tend to have. Hideyoshico’s cover, then, is somewhat opposite and I love the somewhat possessive way Natsuki is holding Komano. Ahhhh their relationship is really just perfect. As for Momoka’s, with that book I don’t really know what to expect so I’m trying not to let the cover get my hopes up too much. But it’s hard when the cover is so damn cute. ;; As most of you may know, I really loved her debut book so I’m pumped to see where this next book will take her storytelling and characterizations.
I’ve also rally enjoyed the latest Dear+ cover, by Amagakure Gido. The more I see her artwork, the more I realize I really really love it. It fits very well with all the things I look for in my favorite manga art styles. (While we’re talking about Dear+, yay for new stories by Kobato Mebaru!!!) And then Hakutou Noriko’s latest release cover makes me laugh every time I look at it. Nothing says “I bet this book is going to be amazing” like a guy getting kicked in the balls?? Instead of being silly, though, Miyoshi Ayato’s Gateau release cover is very very pretty and thus incredibly tempting. I don’t know if I’ve ever read one of her works before—perhaps I’ll have to make this a first! Finally, Nanami’s newest release cover looks very silly and cute and while it was originally not on my to-buy list I might have to stretch the budget just to get a peek at the inside.
Some covers I’m excitedly waiting for include Jaryuu Dokuro’s BxP Anx and Aoi Aki’s HertZ release. For Jaryuu’s, she cruelly even posted to her blog talking about what a good feeling the cover gave her. /o\ So I really really want to see it! Please post it soon Rutile! Then Aoi Aki’s, actually, has technically already been posted to HertZ’s series page but it looks so beautiful that I can’t wait for a high-resolution image (or for it to just be in my hands) so I can really appreciate Aoi Aki’s insane sense for detail and color.
I actually have posts I wanted to do these past couple days but instead I spent them being lazy and indulging in my other hobbies. (Finally got a PS3 YESSSSS!!!) But hey here’s a low-key thing I can post about that’s still crazy exciting, so–! Upcoming release update!
found from Kijitora’s blog:
Nakamura Asumiko “Sora to Hara”
to be released May 19th through Edge Comix
found through random search:
Yamanaka Hiko “Gives”
to be released May 30th through Dear+
Dear+ is also releasing volume two of Ninomiya Etsumi’s Momoiro Club ni Youkoso and -ZE- Kami no Hon by Shimizu Yuki. A lot of fan favorites this coming May, it would seem!
I am just generally excited about Sora to Hara because I’m hoping so so so much that there are some fluffy extras between those two (though I shouldn’t hold my breath…) but I am super super super pumped about Yamanaka Hiko since her works are always like magic and glorious and I love her and it’s a book I actually have not read anything from by one of my favorite artists and that almost never happens so sd;gljsgs yay!!
Though talking about Yamanaka Hiko reminds me… next month it’s already time again for a new issue of onBLUE to be released. It’s kind of crazy how fast time flies—even though it comes out every four months it still sneaks up on me every time.
It’s that time of year again, where everyone is suddenly thinking back with nostaglia as well as forward with excitement. Even a fujoshi gets a little caught up in all the year-end festivities, so here you have it: a BL year in review. I also did one last year so I figured I may as well do one this year. I don’t want to be inconsistent now!
Okay not really Christmas related. I’m just having a terrible, sad day and am thus feeling pretty lacking in creativity as far as blog post titles are concerned. However, these covers were at least one thing that made me smile so I figured I would share them here.
I’m pretty giddy over the Taumi Mayu one, which is the first I saw. Her coloring style has really changed in the years since I last was able to read something by her—it’s become so soft and pretty! Her cover is super adorable and I can’t wait to read the stories inside. Especially considering I’m a total sucker for bookstore themed BL.
That isn’t to say Shinomiya Shino’s cover is not exciting because it definitely also is. It’s absolutely gorgeous and fluffy and sweet, totally what I would expect from Shinomiya. As much as I’ve bought Rutile in the past I’m not sure how many of her stories I’ve read through them so I’m so ecstatic for this book to arrive. I absolutely loved her comic through Baby once I was finally able to read it so I’m always ready for more of Shinomiya’s work.
Then of course Sakura Sakuya’s, which I am excited about simply because… well… porn lmao. It’s a Sakura Sakuya book through Junet—what more could you ask for?
As for the OPERA cover, I am just kicking myself for not buying this one even though I had to take Cab out of my purchase this month. 8((( Nakamura Asumiko coverrrrr. And Aniya Yuiji inside!! uuu want. ;; Maybe I can talk my sister into throwing it into the Christmas gift of an extra BL order that she promised me sdg;ljs;ghsd’g’sdf maybe. Ugh I really want to read the final chapter of Sora to Hara!
Anyway, also a tiny reminder to participate in DameBL Christmas Contest! Not many people are participating so far so there’s a good chance you might win. All you have to do is tell me your DameBL fantasy first. :9
♔ → Kano Shiuko’s Punch, aside form getting a license announcement, will supposedly be continuing in the next issue of b-Boy Honey. If you are weird like me and have an obsession with Kouta, this is pretty exciting news. If you click here you can see a sample page of all the works that will be in the next issue.
♔ → Speaking of Libre, at Citron’s blog over the past few months they’ve started posting sample pages of all the stories that will be in each issue. The other day they posted Kumota Haruko’s, successfully making it look incredibly promising.
♔ → For those lucky enough to be either residing in Japan, or who will be vacationing there in January, Ike Reibun will be having a sign event for the second volume of her story Not Equal. As if the release for her second volume weren’t already something worth marking your calendar for.
♔ → Two of Aniya Yuiji’s BL works, Danshi Meiro and Kangoku 69, are getting a reprint! That’s very awesome, so congratulations to her! However, you know you’re a ridiculously cheesy fan when you want to buy a second copy just because it’s the reprint. Even though there won’t be any extras. orz;;;
♔ → Has anyone read the new chapter of Sora to Hara yet? Kijitora posted about it, saying it was a really good chapter! Uuuu so jealous—I want to read it. ;; But I’m debating with myself whether I want to buy the latest OPERA or if I want to just wait for the tankoubon to be released, since Kijitora also said the next chapter will supposedly be the last. Also, the last chapter is running in a volume where the theme is ‘gekokujou’…… as Kijitora said, it kind of raises questions of whether Hara-sen is top or bottom in this relationship.
♔ →If you go to the Comic Junet site, you can preview a page by Psyche Delico! She has a color page in this issue ughhh it’s enough to make me want to buy the book. Someday I’ll learn the art of being patient, I promise!
♔ → One a more personal note, I’ve been working my way through Ayatani Rikko’s Mitsumete, Motto. I’m kind of happy to find that I can actually understand way more than I was expecting to, even with the overwhelming blocks of Japanese that make up BL novels. Well… it helps that it’s really just a smut novel and ‘ah, ann… motto’ is pretty easy to understand even to a bigger. It’s cute, though: about a pretty and innocent exotic dancer named Kei who meets a man at his job named Ryousuke-san after giving him a lap dance and then Ryousuke-san pretty much turns Kei into a lascivious sex fiend. Best book I’ve ever read; I give it five stars.
It arrived!! * w *)/ My Nakamura Asumiko Doukyuusei fanbook! It’s very pretty—admittedly thinner than I was expecting but it’s also in hardcover and very high-quality.
Obviously I’m not going to share the entire book (you’ll have to buy it for that—no excuses!!) but I figured I would talk about some of my favorite parts.
