sitting here bored, so I figured I could do a post about recent or upcoming releases I’m excited to get my mitts on eventually! I literally have 50 books currently in my amazon.jp wishlist, though admittedly some of them are there after going through and trashing my magazines and being reminded of authors that I enjoyed but had somehow forgotten. Still, there are plenty of new and upcoming books I’m excited about as well.
first off, a book by a debut artist I’ve been excited about ever since I started to read her story running in Daria, Haji’s Double Hound. Her art style is really interesting and I love the facial expressions and proportioning of her characters, as well as the relationship between the two mains for this particular book. Unfortunately it’s currently on back-order so I’m gonna have to wait a while before I can read it.
as for Dear+, Miike Romuco released a book by them late in December that I accidentally missed out on even though it looks super cute. (tbh as a free! fan I can’t help but be reminded of Nagisa and Rei’s previous track teammate…) Then this month there’s Ten Count volume three, which I’m stoked about even though that story admittedly went in a direction I definitely wasn’t expecting. Then next month is Ogeretsu Tanaka‘s book through them. If you follow my personal blog you’ll already know how much I loved the story that had her debuting in Dear+. Admittedly a little disappointing, though, is that Masao Sangatsu still hasn’t released anything for her newest series…
for onBlue this month there was a new book released by Nobara Aiko that’s getting a lot of fanfare! Unfortunately, though, it’s also a backorder so there’ll be a bit of a wait before I can personally read it. A lesser-known bl publisher, Fleur Comics, released a book by Nishi Noriko that looks really cute—Focus.
through Chara another book I missed out on in December is this lovely-looking book by Natsukawa Shiori. Then this month they’ll be releasing a book by Minazuki Akira, which is always something to look forward to.
then we have a double-release by Kojima Lalako for Paradise View: one and two. Admittedly I’m a bit nervous for this release, since it seems a bit angstier than most of her stories and admittedly as much as I adore her overall I’ve always been more of a fan of her fluffier, more gentle stories. The double cover is really lovely, though, especially when placed side by side.
Rutile, ever the big-time releaser of some of my favorite stories, has a lot to offer me recently. Firstly, this month they released a new book by Misaki Usio, who I’ve really been loving these last couple years. Then next month they have a release by Uchida Tsuchi, and then something by one of my all-time favorite mangaka Hirakita Yuya as well. And lucky for me Hirakita is also releasing a book through Chocolat.
Rutile’s less-innocent sister line, Lynx, is then releasing a book by Ootsuki Miu! It feels like it’s been forever since there was last a new book by Ootsuki Miu through Lynx, which used to be one of the most active publishers of her work. I’m excited to see what kind of new stories she’ll have through them. And then drap is releasing a book by Shinozaki Mai, who iirc I’ve never read anything by but her cover is just beautiful.
finally, an anthology by Poe Backs Baby Comics, Hentai Play. Because I’ll be buying so many fluffy Rutile books I figured I’d better balance it out with this delightfully perverted-looking anthology that contains many great artists, such as Akahoshi Jake, Pii, Fujimako, as well as many artists I’ve never heard of before while us always a fun discovery experience!
Anyway, how about you guys? Any new or upcoming releases you’re particularly looking forward to?
Funny thing, earlier in the month I was watching videos of women talking about starting fashion blogs and how fun and important it is to blog about things you’re passionate about, and it made me really want to start posting here again. I’ve been on the fence about it, since I felt like if I came back I should do so with a bang, but the rut I keep falling into is that I get too picky about what I’m ‘allowed’ to post on this blog so I finally figured, hey, I’m just going to post whatever I feel like posting and we’ll go from there. It’s been nearly six months, after all!
so what finally got me really really in the mood to post was this bit of news:
Ten Count tankoubon to be released in late March!
I’ve personally been really loving Ten Count–to the point where I specifically started buying Dear+ after reading the first couple of chapters scanlated. Both character designs are incredibly charming, as would be expected of Takarai Rihito’s work. But I also just really love the slow bloom of their relationship; it reminds me of what I already love so much about Takarai’s writing style–she really makes room for the changing emotions to take center stage and it makes even the smallest interactions really stand out.
I also really love how Shirotani’s illness is handled–it’s never treated by any other characters (aside from himself) with frustration or disgust and it’s handled with sympathy and understanding of the subject. Plus it’s such an interesting topic to tackle in a BL comic; it’ll make it even more gloriously meaningful when he finally let’s Kurose touch him!
though I’m admittedly nervous that it doesn’t indicate yet that this will be volume one only.
What do you all think of Ten Count? And sorry again for my constant off-again on-again absence. I’m so ashamed that I even missed my blog anniversary. orz;;; But I have 28 books on the way (including the new Ten Count chapter ahhhhh) which will hopefully give me much more content to talk about here.
well not everything is here yet obviously, so I’ll have to do another one later. But the first part of my Amazon order arrived this morning and yesterday my Honto order from early this month came so I have lots of books suddenly and I figured I’d talk about them a bit.
can you see Twin sleeping on the bed? He kind of blends in with the blanket.
ok so yesterday on tumblr I mentioned I was thinking of maybe doing a ~top five~ meme when it comes to BL and I got some vaguely positive responses so I figured it was worth a shot. The general idea of the top five meme is to take my top five of any particular BL trope, i.e. smut-centric, character-driven, angst-filled. Today I tckled romance, since I figured that would be easy. If you any any specific type or trope of BL you want me to cover, feel free to ask because I’m pretty unimaginative.
ANYWAY, onto my top five!
Well I was going through my books that arrived from my order in August and I figured a lot of people said it would be okay it I just talked randomly about BL-related personal stuff so. Here’s my boring post about the books I’ve gotten so far from my August order. Still yet to arrive are Castle Mango (I shoved it in my order when it was still supposed to come out in August so now they’re just treating it like a perorder orz) and Yamada Maya’s book through drap (which should be here today actually) so I can’t really talk about those. But I can talk about my other stuff that has arrived recently so sdgh;ldsg;s
Initially I was just taking out the inside pamphlets from the books and placing them in the special box of BL stuff where I keep pamphlets and special papers and extras. Unfortunately I had to start using another box recently—
—since the other one is too full. Thank goodness I am an obsessively storage-oriented person so I had an extra box lying around ready to become a BL pamphlet container.
Anyway, onto talking about my actual books.
sorry in advance that this post is kind of long and image-heavy. /;w;\
♔ → For those who’re fans of Takarai Rihito and are still super excited about Hana wo Mizo Shiru volume two, b’s-garden added a page for the release with stuff like an interview with Takarai, information about her other releases, information about the story thusfar, and also a very pretty purple wallpaper.
♔ → Amagakure Gido has a new BL release this month! If I recall correctly, I don’t think I’ve ever read anything by her—she does have one BL release, but mostly she seems to write shoujo/josei comics. To commemorate her new BL release Chill Chill interviewed her. I’m going to wait until I’ve read something by her to read her interview (otherwise I’ll feel like a faker tbh) but if you’re already into her works you can read the interview here!
♔ → In news of yet more covers to get excited over:
Kojima Lalako has the cover of Moca this month! I initially learned about it when my friend Snakey mentioned it on twitter, but then I didn’t actually see it until yesterday when Kojima tweeted about it herself. Definitely another home-run for Kojima Lalako—sometimes I sincerely wonder if it’s possible for her to create an image that isn’t insanely endearing. I’ve done a pretty good job not buying Moca thusfar, but this is definitely testing my resolve. Aside from that is Nimoda Ai’s cover for her debut book through HertZ! Very cute. *w*)/ I figured I should post this one as well, considering I also talked about her Citron book.
♔ → Because my usual source for BL new went on hiatus, it’s become much harder for me to find new release information but that makes it even more of an exciting surprise when I find out about a new book coming out that I really really want. For instance, while surfing Chill Chill last night for covers and release info, I found this gem: Manako will be releasing her second book, this time through Baby Comics, on December 26th! *A*)/ Uwaaaa!! I haven’t read many of her stories from Baby (since, unfortunately, I haven’t been able to afford buying Baby regularly) but the ones I have read were absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to see what all she has to offer through them! Also, Poe Backs is releasing a Magi doujinshi anthology. Definitely relevant to my interests. Thank god for Christmas gift money.
♔ → Speaking of Baby, I was surprised to find they have a book coming out this month and doubly surprised to find it looks really cute. A debut book by Kazuki Thought, it would seem.
Initially I was apprehensive since Poe Backs also releases doujinshi anthologies (obviously, considering my previous paragraph) and the characters look freakishly similar to that Exorcist anime I’ve been seeing around lately. But from the description on Chill Chill it definitely sound like an original book—a kozure story about a guy meeting his old fling from college who is now a widower with one child to his name. Sounds like something I can get behind, so hopefully it really isn’t just some random doujinshi anthology with a mixed-up description.
♔ → I found a super amazingly huge POP image for Nobara Aiko’s Akiyama-kun for all those others who just can’t seem to get enough of that book: CLICK! Ughhhh I want to reread it now. ;;
♔ → Gojoe Tiger has a story in Aqua Pipi, which is a cellphone BL publication with a name that always makes me giggle like a six-year-old. If you go here and scroll near the bottom you can see some tiny samples of her work, as well as the others in the current issue. For those lucky bastards who have a Japanese cellphone, please tell me if her story is good or not!
Something that might excite a good handful of you: Craft added the cover for Takarai Rihito’s Hana no Mizo Shiru volume two! I personally think it’s really pretty.
Still very small, I know. orz Unfortunately it still hasn’t been added on amazon quite yet, so no close-up!
Admittedly I’m not the biggest fan of Takarai Rihito (I do like her, but I’d feel weird calling myself a fan since there are so many people who are incredibly passionate about her works whom I can’t even compare to) but I still am quite enamored by the cover. Such pretty, sad positioning and I love all the purples.
Anyway, if you go here to Craft’s release page you can also read a sample!
