interesting releases for February.

I know it feels kind of quick to mention February releases when a majority of the books for this month haven’t even come out yet but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to talk about them a bit.

⇔ As is the case every year it’s been released so far, a new volume of Saiyaku wa Boku wo Suki Sugiru will come out February 25th! tbh I only finally checked this series out recently but I’m kind of hooked. Does anyone know if this will be the last volume, or is it still ongoing?

⇔ Volume two of Takaguchi Satosumi’s Hone made Aishite! This caught me off-guard because I actually first read this story when it just started and I was still buying Chara Selection to keep up with that Sasaki Kumiko story, K no Kouzu, which has since been discontinued sob. I’m obviously pretty behind on this one (like going on four years behind) but I’m excited to hopefully pick it up again in the future!

⇔ New Rutile release for Mochimeko, Houjun na Gohoubi! It feels like it’s been forever since I last read something new by her.

⇔ Another book by Uchida Tsuchi, Bokura ga Koi wo Suru ni wa, through B’s-Lovely comics so I assume this will be a collection of all the stuff she ran in Ricottia. I’m so happy for her that her career in BL seems to have taken off quite nicely wahhh. ;; She’s one of the very very first random artists I bought when I initially started buying BL regularly, and it was her just-released debut. So I have a weird proud-mama feeling whenever I see her around.

⇔ Also through B’s-Lovely, a new release from Akahoshi Jake! You can tell I’m pretty damn behind on what the anthologies and magazines I’m not following have been running because I sincerely had no idea Akahoshi Jake was in anything other than drap. But I’m pretty pumped to read more from her, considering how wonderfully perverted her stuff is.

⇔ Through Gateau, finally after what feels like two years of waiting Amemori Gigi is getting a compiled release. Titled Crystal Palace, the book comes out on the 15th. Now I just get to wonder how long it’ll be before the stories she ran in drap are released in any fashion…

⇔ Koshino has a new book coming out through BexBoy less than a month from now, Michi to no Souguu. I haven’t been so into Koshino lately but I’m sure it’ll be great.

⇔ Also through BexBoy, Yoneda Kou’s NightS will be released on the 9th. Once again I’m not a huge fan of Yoneda Kou but I haven’t read anything from NightS so maybe I’ll like it? Then again I just went and read it was a yakuza story so maybe not… We’ll have to see I guess.

⇔ Through Asuka CL-DX Kinoshita Keiko has a new book Koi wa Sodatte Ai ni Naru coming out on the first. Moderately excited because even though I really like Kinoshita’s stories for some reason she hasn’t really broken into my life of favorite authors yet?? It’s kind of weird. But I shall keep an eye on this one because she has definitely released some stuff I really really love.

⇔ Of course, the one I’m most pumped about is Kumota Haruko’s Itoshi no Nekokke volume three (their high school years) which is also released February first. As much as I was skeptical about the timeline shift to their high school days I ended up really loving it and of course I am giddy to see what the extras for the book will have to offer. And the cover illustration! Has a teaser or anything been released yet? I’m kind of behind on following her twitter. orz;;

⇔ And let’s not forget Kojima Lalako’s Yume Yume Shinjuu. Admittedly not personally pumped about this one because I buy HertZ regularly and it’s kind of… a depressing story….. orz But I have been wanting to read the whole thing in full recently so this is definitely my chance!

One last one I want to mention as kind of a side note is that Chill Chill has another release for Rutile listed for February 23: Kyuugou’s Bokura wa Sore wo Hitei Dekinai. Initially I was really confused because Acid Town is running in Rutile, not this random title, and a new volume of Acid Town was just released not too long ago iirc. But after a Google search this popped up?? So maybe it’s something she had running in Rutile Sweet on the side? idk. I would be pretty excited if it’s true, because her Craft story is too depressing so I’ve dropped it until it’s complete and I still need to give Acid Town another chance (unfortunately I got too attached to the wrong couple and thus had to drop it until my palate was cleansed enough for me to digest the way the pairing was actually going to end up) so even though I absolutely adore Kyuugou I haven’t really been able to read anything by her lately. So if she has another book full of other random stories I would be stoked. Unfortunately though I can’t find any news on Rutile’s site and there isn’t a pre-order page on Amazon so I’m not going to hold my breath on this one. Here’s to hoping, though, because the first chapter was really cute and I’d love more of this fluffy, sexy Kyuugou work I’ve been missing.

Excitement for 2013!

tbh it’s kind of bizarre to me to see the ‘2013’ marker on all the upcoming release announcements now! It feels like it was 2011 just yesterday. 2012, even. What in the world happened to 2012—it feels like it just started. I guess this means I should get working on my ‘2012 BL year in review’ soon. But before that, let’s talk about some exciting January releases!

Sweets OL, one of my personal favorite BL blogs, just recently posted her lineup for January’s releases and there are some I’m pretty pumped about. Namely, these few:

10日 リブレ サヨナラノート 友江ふみ
25日 祥伝社 つま先に火 柳沢ゆきお
31日 白泉社 いちにのさん! 奥山ぷく

That would be Tomoe Fumi’s Sayonara Note through Libre on the 10th, Yanagisawa Yukio’s Tsumasaki ni Hi through onBlue on the 25th, and finally Okuyama Puku’s Ichinino-san! through Hanamaru on the 31st.

Tomoe Fumi’s in particular I’m really happy about. Actually this book was announced almost two years ago, to be released sometime during the period when the earthquake and tsunami happened in Japan. Because of that many publications at the time got their dates jumbled and pushed back, and Sayonara Note was no exception—but the difference was that Sayonara Note wasn’t just pushed back, no, the publication date was just canceled for a later date. More than a year and a half later I was thinking it would just never get published but finally they’ve re-announced a publication date. And I am so happy because I’ve loved all the oneshots I’ve seen by Tomoe Fumi as well as her single compiled release, and I’ve been wanting more by her for so long! ;w;)

As for Yanagisawa’s that’s mostly exciting for collection-completion reasons. Okuyama’s, on the other hand, is pretty awesome because this will be her first book not released through Craft! So awesome—a huge congratulations to her! And I can’t wait to read it, because I fell absolutely in love with her last release and believe in her to put out some more really lovely stories.

Some other interesting releases Sweets OL listed are two by Okadaya Tetsuzou—finally, an official compiled release of Raiatea! It won’t be released through Canna, though, which I find somewhat strange. Then there is also Tango no Otoko the final, which is evidently a continuation of the series that introduced me to Okadaya in the first place and showed me that not all stories with big bulky men are unappealing.

As for Yoneda Kou, her fans will be happy to know that the first part of her HertZ series Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai will be released January 30th. Mio Junta has a book coming out on the first, which is enticing if only because Mio Junta’s stories are always so cute to me. Fujimoto Haruki has two books coming out, one on the 10th and the other on the 29th, both of while I’ll have my eye on because even though I don’t buy her releases often and don’t talk about her much I actually quite like Fujimoto Haruki.

Dame BL Anthology | Full Review

Finally! I finally finished the whole book! orz;;; Well. Kind of, since there are some stories I didn’t read super closely. But I at least got a good idea of what all the stories were about so now I can post small summaries here and help all of you decide if you want to buy the book or not. Personally, I love it—initially I had my doubts, thought that even though I LOVE the Moe Danshi Gatari series that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll really like this as well, but even though I don’t absolutely adore all the stories the book as a whole is fantastic and was well worth the money.

Anyway let’s take a look inside! Vague warning for R-18 content though this book is, for the most part, mostly clean and plot-driven.

DAME DAME DAME.

Dame—that wonderful phrase that is in almost every BL sex scene. That phrase people love to hate. That glorious phrase that has now become a book.

I checked Bookman’s site today and found true happiness. I hadn’t realized at all that Kumota Haruko also had the cover, so when I saw it I just shrieked and threw my hands into the air. KUMOTA HARUKO, YOU SEXY BEAST. I’m sorry I doubted you! I love you; please come back to my bosom!

Details on the stories and mangaka inside can be found right here, which is sd;glj;dgssdfgs exciting!! Admittedly it has a lot less mangaka than I thought it would, but I have to realize that this is an actual comic anthology—it’s not like Moe Danshi Gatari where they can fit a ridiculous amount of mangaka in one tiny book just because everyone only has two pages to express themselves. I’m pretty stoked to see Rotta Ikumi and Mochimeko in the line-up, though they all look (and sound!) pretty fantastic. Also, I’m going to have to crack out my Japanese dictionary so I can read Cotorino Deathco’s column on “BL without sex scenes” because that sounds pretty interesting.

Also, I don’t think I mentioned it here but actually the release date for the Dame BL anthology was pushed back: it will now be released on the 25th! Also, the preorder page was finally added to amazon! Luckily this means I can stop checking amazon ten times a day while I wait for an update lmao. orz;;;; Now to just peacefully sit back and wait for the 20th to put in my order and hopefully get the book relatively quickly, because if I have to wait any longer for this book I just might die from the giddiness.

For now, though, I will just sit here and gaze adoringly at the cover and that little sneak peek of lacy panties and beautiful high heels that only allow you a tiny taste of what’s to come.

iHertZ

They’re already on volume five! Sorry I haven’t really talked about iHertZ at all on here—to be honest I try to ignore its existence since I’m not a fan of digital books at all. Especially the ones from JP publishers, which put so many anti-piracy devices on that sometimes it’s almost impossible to read the damn things anyway. (I’m looking at you, b-Boy Cube…) But I figured I’d still post about this one because. Well. Kojima Lalako.

Yep: Kojima Lalako. It became impossible for me to ignore this issue because of the cover. And also, if you go to their site you can read a small sample of each story. So that’s what I did, and now I am hooked not only on Kojima Lalako’s but also Minazuki Akira’s. orz;;; Why can’t I learn to just stay away from these things; it would save me so much money! Watch me end up buying it when I get home sob.

Anyway, you can click the past issues as well and you can still buy them as well as just sample what they have to offer. Volume four has Tomoe Fumi, which I find very tempting. (But I haven’t checked the sample yet since I have to get ready for work blehhh.) Volume two has more Minazuki Akira and also Serihara Yuuki. And then volume one has more Serihara and then some Yoneda Kou.

Hopefully they’re still available on Renta using points. /;A;\

“Dame BL” anthology

So Bookman, the publishers behind the “Moe Danshi Gatari” essay collections-turned-artbooks everyone loves so much, are finally releasing the “Dame BL” anthology! Initially they announced it in the back MDG2 with the tentative release date of “early summer 2011” so when that date passed I figured the plans for the book must have fallen through and I was thoroughly disappointed. But who would have known the book would be set for an official release almost half a year later?

I initially heard of it when someone I follow tweeted about Kumota Haruko’s blog post about it. Somehow I’d totally missed her post (that’s what I get for never getting caught up with twitter… orz) so it came as a huge shock to me. But sure enough, Kumota announced on her blog that she’d have a story running in “Dame BL Anthology”, to be released on November 1st. Go here to check her site and the cute illustration she did to fit her ‘dame’ theme: foot fetish. Yes, those are a man’s legs.

However, try as I might I wasn’t able to find any other information on the book even after Kumota announced it (aside from a small conversation on twitter between Uno Zinia and Psyche Delico) so part of me was still like “no way… it’s too good to be true, isn’t it?” But—! Today Kijitora updated about it, announcing that the book and its information have been added to Animate Online. And sure enough, here the book is. It’s still not added to any other site, but the fact that it’s on Animate means I can really start getting my hopes up that the release date is 100% cemented in.

Anyway, here’s the lineup:

Comics include Kumota Haruko, Morozumi Sumitomo, Est Em, Umematsu Machie, Okadaya Tetsuzou, Chiba Ryouko, etc.
Columns include Aoyama Toomi, Kusama Sakae, Psyche Delico, Yoneda Kou, etc.

I can’t wait to see the names hiding behind ‘etc.’—I’m sure you all know who I’m hoping for the most.

For those who don’t know, ‘dame BL’ appeared on the scene a year or two ago because a bunch of mangaka on twitter were having conversations about BL manga they would love to read or write that would never ever be okay’d by their publishers. It created a huge boom even among fans, who started talking about all the weird BL that they thought would be interesting to read as well, such as stories about old men strolling along the street holding hands or maybe two men getting in an argument about their relationship for the whole story. So I guess what we can look forward to with this anthology is a collection of unusual stories unlike most of the BL we’ve seen thusfar.

I’m definitely looking forward to it!

today in BL manga

Sorry that this blog is so dead lately. orz I really don’t know where my spirit to post has gone. So much to talk about but I put it off for so long that news gets old.

♔ → First off, Kobato Mebaru now has a twitter account for her BL releases! Previously she only had one under her shoujo pen name. She doesn’t post much, but it’s exciting nonetheless. Also, iirc she mentioned something about having a story in Girls Love -Strawberry Milk Shake- which is a new GL anthology. I don’t think I’ve ever read a GL manga by Kobato Mebaru before so I’d be excited to see it!

♔ → The cover for the new issue of Rutile has been posted. This time it’s Hidaka Shouko! Sadly I didn’t buy this issue since Matsumoto Miecohouse is taking a short hiatus, but I’m still jealous of everyone who could afford it this month. The Yamamoto Kotetsuko color page looks really cute and I’d love to see her new story sd;lgjsddfg I guess I’ll have to wait for the tankoubon this time around.

♔ → And then Rutile’s sister line LYNX now has the previews up for their releases from this month on their site. You should definitely check them out—especially Minazuki Akira’s! If you’re having trouble finding them, they’re the list of covers next to the magazine release information on the main page.

♔ → The newest issue of Canna has been released, and along with it the anthology page on Canna’s website has been updated with pictures and descriptions of this month’s stories. Ahhhh so excited for Junketsu Drop as always. Kijitora said it’s another cute chapter but their feelings still aren’t reaching each other. orz;; As expected, with those two. But I’m also pretty pumped for Yamada Torico and Snae Hata. Their stories are always something worth looking forward to.

♔ → Actually, since the topic of Yamada Torico was brought up, she has a release through drap in early September!! Yesss, her second BL release! Kanashii Hito wa Doko ni mo Inai, for release on September third. I love her stories—if you haven’t read anything by her before I recommend checking out her debut comic Clara wa Itsumo Kizudarake. She always injects a great sense of melancholy into her work, and it really sets her apart.

♔ → Another exciting upcoming release is one I’ve been waiting for for a loooong time: Gojoe Tiger’s debut tankoubon! For sale on September 30th, Oujisama no Hiyaku Jikken. I hope it sells well and her manga career is really able to take off!

♔ → Two pretty covers I’ve been quite enamored by lately:

First is the debut issue of Hanamaru Manga, cover illustration by Ogura Muku. The book itself doesn’t have Ogura Muku, but has many great authors such as Koiwazurai Shibito, Hirakita Yuya and Honma Akira. Isn’t the cover so pretty, though?? Ahhh Ogura Muku, so amazing at creating gorgeous cover art. ;; Speaking of her gorgeous color artwork, there’s also this amazing cover of a novel released next month.

Then, of course, we can’t forget about Watanabe Asia’s beautiful color illustration for the official release of Nibiiro no Hana! So lovely! Watanabe Asia’s beautiful young boys always make me feel like such a creep. orz

♔ → In other release news, something worth getting excited over is Ike Reibun’s upcoming comic through HertZ that was just announced today for release in early September. If I recall correctly, this will be her first book through HertZ line. Though I was a bit disappointed, admittedly, to see her name and have it not be the second volume of Not Equal. orz;;; It feels like I’ve been waiting forever for the second volume of that manga.

♔ → Est Em’s release Happy End Apartment has been pushed back again from early to mid August. Hopefully this will be the last time her release date is changed.

♔ → Finally, HertZ! The new cover has been posted to their website, this time by Yamada Shiro. Ahhh I’m really excited, mostly for the next chapter of Hakumokuren. I know something big has to happen!! Hopefully it won’t be another super short chapter. ;; Also, as expected, going from the title of Yoneda Kou’s work this is definitely not a continuation of the story she originally had running in CRAFT. I wonder why she switched lines instead of completing Yorube Naki Mono…? The world may never know.
