in my opinion, anyway. For some reason, November’s releases have been weirdly kept secret—usually about midway through the month, the releases for two months from then will start being revealed. But this time around the only November releases I really knew about until just a few days ago were the Hanaoto, Dear+ and Pierce Series books. Then on October first they started slowly showing up at random on Amazon (Chill Chill is still pretty lacking in the release announcement department as you can see) so I’ve been picking up the habit of checking daily for any new exciting upcoming releases.
(as you can see, I don’t have much other stuff to do with my time aside from checking BL listings… orz;;)
Some of them are actually pretty damn exciting—in particular, the ones that popped up this morning while I was checking!
Koibito Assortment by Kumonosuke (Gateau Comics)
I’ve already known about Amagakure and Kimura’s for quite a while now; funny how the ones latest in the month always seem to be the first announced. I’m particularly excited for Kimura Hidesato’s, since I’ve loved her ever since I first saw her in the Syrup anthologies and recently when I started stalking her blog I was horrified to find she started running regularly in Junet-released magazines only after I stopped regularly buying them. But fear not—next month she’ll be releasing a Pierce Series book so I won’t have to search ’till the ends of the earth just to collect her stories through them. Also every time I see the title for her book I laugh stupidly. (Though Orishima Yupopo’s upcoming Sexcuse me! is also pretty damn brilliant.)
I’m also, of course, very excited about Vanilla Resort, room share, and O’mamorishimasu. Those three I’ve read partially in the magazines they’re running in and truly enjoyed each and every one and am pretty ecstatic about the chance to read them in full. For room share, it’ll be interesting to see how much I’ve missed because iirc in the last issue of OPERA I bought the couple still wasn’t technically together.
Kumonosuke’s, of course, I am very happy about since she’s one of my favorite artists and it’s been half a year now since I’ve been able to read anything by her. Actually, speaking of Kumonosuke she just started running in Chara! Or was it Chara Selection? Either way, it’s so awesome to see her branching out to all kinds of different BL publications because it’s always pretty distressing when an artist you like only sticks to the same publisher until they stop publishing her work and she thus just disappears completely. HEARTBREAK.
Ike Reibun’s, Mio Junta’s, and Shimaji’s I am excited about but only moderately. Well. I am very excited, but not as excited as I am for some of the other ones. Now, the one I am seriously absolutely pumped about is Hirakita Yuya’s. As my friends know quite well, I’ve been whining for months and months now about how it feels like I never get to read anything by Hirakiya Yuya anymore and it feels like forever since she’s released something. (Actually, it has been a year now… ;A;) And since I absolutely adore her and her stories and art and just everything about her releases, it kills me to go a really long time without even a taste of something new from her. So this book is pretty much a blessing from the fujoshi goddesses because finally—FINALLY—something fresh and new for my eyes from Hirakita. ;w;)/ Yay!!
Long time no see!
♔ → On August 24th Yamamoto Kotetsuko will be releasing the second volume of her manga Lucky Number 13 through Rutile! I’ve been waiting almost a year for this so I’m ecstatic!
♔ → Also in release announcements, on August 25th Chiba Ryouko will be releasing a tankoubon through Chara. Admittedly I was hoping for Junko, but Chiba Ryouko is good as well! It feels like it’s been so long since I last read something new from her.
♔ → On Canna’s release date, the website was updated with information for July’s issue. Snae Hata gets the cover again! And Yamada Torico gets the color page. *w* They really are revisiting a lot of the mangaka they originally started out with! Also also, Inoue Nawo?? So great! Though I’m sad that Ootsuki Miu’s story still isn’t continuing. orz;;; It left off on a terrible cliffhanger so the wait is frustrating.
Speaking of Canna, though, they finally added the cover for Marita Yuzu’s upcoming tankoubon:
♔ → Not necessarily BL-related, but this month is great for Kumota Haruko as far as josei manga goes! Not only is she on the cover of ITAN but also volume one of her series through them was announced for release next month. The cover has already been posted to their blog, along with Bikke’s who also happens to be releasing a book through them in July. I’m hoping Aniya’s will be announced for August or September!
♔ → Some other covers I found interesting are Ishino Aya’s latest release through Rutile and then Komizu Kiyo and Ogasawara Uki’s through HertZ.
Ishino Aya’s, in particular, is so pretty. I love how innocent her BL illustrations tend to be—they tell a very simple but lovely story.
♔ → Ootsuki Miu is back in Daria! Actually, just that was enough to make me really want to purchase the latest issue but since I wasn’t interested enough in many of the other mangaka I had to pass it up. I went back and counted and this is Ootsuki’s third story through Daria (sixth, counting the online-only releases) so hopefully I can realistically keep my fingers crossed for a tankoubon soon.
This month was just generally a hard month for me when it came to magazine and anthology purchases, haha. Because Konno Satomi was debuting in Chara and also because Junko’s manga finished up in this issue, I wanted to buy Chara. But I also really wanted OPERA for Matsuo Marta and Nakamura Asumiko. ;; In the end I tried to take the ‘responsible’ route—since I couldn’t choose between the three magazines I bought a tankoubon from my backlog wishlist instead.
♔ → Yoneda Kou, evidently coming back full swing, is also on the cover of volume one of BiQ. She doesn’t have a story inside, though, sadly.
♔ → And lastly, Baby volume 17 has finally been released. As you may recall, this volume was originally scheduled for late March but had to be pushed back due to the earthquake in Japan. The theme is ‘yanki uke’ this time around, and the special guest and cover illustrator is Kyuugou.
So there are quite a few interesting releases coming up and I thought I’d just do a quickie!post for them here.
Ishino Aya “Amanojaku no Koi”
Enjin Yamimaru “Voice or Noise 4”
Naono Boura “Circle”
Takao Hiroi “Sangatsu Boujitsu, Kuma wo Hirotta”
Ogasawara Uki “Black Sun Doreiou 2”
Komizu Kiyo “Karada Meate de Warui ka”
I know someone in the comments was excited about Ogasawara’s release? Well, here it is—her tankoubon for the completion of Black Sun. Actually, iirc Ogasawara also currently has something new running in CRAFT already?
Personally I’m reaaaaaaally excited for the Takao Hiroi’s tankoubon release! It feels like it’s been way way too long since I’ve read something new by her. \*w*/ I’m ready for more!
Today EDGE released the cover of volume two of Tsubaki Biyori, titled Tsubaki Dayori. I believe this is the final chapter of Tsubaki’s story, but I can’t be too sure as Ishino Aya will also be in the next issue of OPERA.
For some reason I want to say “FINALLY!” but actually it’s quite early for them to release the cover—almost ten days before the release date, as Tsubaki Dayori is released on October 22. For some reason it feels much later in the month to me. Like, around the twentieth or so.
Anyway, hopefully they’ll post the cover for Bikke’s book soon as well. /o/ Her’s is a very cute story so I’m excited to see her illustration.
Just as the title says, ITAN is not a BL anthology. If I had to force it into a genre, I would most likely call it ‘josei’—considering a lot of artists who’re in it are BL artists and also some of the themes in the stories, I think it’s safe to assume it’s aimed at women. It’s released late in the month every three months and has a lot of absolutely gorgeous covers. It first caught my attention when both Aniya Yuiji and Kumota Haruko announced that they would be in it, but the stories I’ve read so far (which actually isn’t many, ngl—this anthology has a lot of difficult kanji for someone at my level) are very good and I personally think it’s a fabulous anthology.
I am not here today to offer story descriptions or anything but to just spam you with sample images of some of the BL artists inside. So my friend Lynn could see the Kumota Haruko art. But you know me—I can’t resist any chance to try and talk about Aniya Yuiji. It’s just not possible.
♔ → Today Akamine from Citron blog updated about the upcoming Kusama Sakae tankoubon release (to come on sale October 1st along with their supposed new anthology) Match Uri in which they posted the tankoubon cover before it goes through color correction. It’s a very nice, subtle cover as expected of a mangaka like Kusama Sakae. Akamine also points out that there will be a special all-color manga pamphlet but didn’t include many details on how you can get it—he said there will be more information on the obi after release.
♔ → In more ‘upcoming very soon’ release news, Ishino Aya and Bikke will both be releasing tankoubon under EDGE later on this month. Ishino will be releasing on the 22nd with Tsubaki Dayori and Bikke on the 28th with Kabe no Naka no Tenshi. No covers have been released yet, as far as I know, but I’d definitely keep my eye on OPERA’s site since they’re usually quite good about posting those things early.
♔ → November releases have already started getting announced, including BexBoy Comics. Kurumazaki Mayu (Sweet Pool) and Taki Hajime will both be releasing under the Super line, while Naono Boura is included under the regular BBC line. Those will all be released on November 10th.
♔ → For Hanaoto, something I’m excited about: a new tankoubon from Katou Setsuko on November 29th! Along with Katou, Natsumizu Ritsu will be releasing a new book as well.
♔ → In GATEAU news, if you go to their site you can see the color insert for Hideyoshico’s new tankoubon. It’s very pretty. Then they have two books released today, both of which look like they’ll be fabulous reads. Click the images to go to the amazon page and see the larger covers.
♔ → The website for Dear+ has been edited with information on the newly-released issue for this month as well as the issue for the upcoming month. On the scrolling banner, if you wait a while you can see some very pretty images by Aoi Levin and Kazuaki. However, what made me most excited is the upcoming issue information: nekomimi-themed oneshot with a color insert by Ootsuki Miu. It looks absolutely adorable. I think this really might have to be the first time I buy Dear+.
♔ → For more excitement over covers, check out Narazaki Neneko and Kitabeppu Nica’s covers through GUSH for this month.
♔ → Fujiyama Hyouta’s manga through Daria Sono Te no Netsu wo Kasanete will supposedly be getting a drama CD in April of 2011. More information can be found here. I do not believe a cast list or anything has been released yet.
♔ → HertZ’s tankoubon release for Mieno Saori and Riwo’s Hakumokuren ga Saita nara now has its POP image included in the upcoming release information. You can find it here, four down, and it’s absolutely stunning. Mieno Saori’s color images always have such a great mood to them. Anyway, that release is still slated for October 1st so be excited for it! I know that I definitely can’t wait.
♔ → Junet posted up the cover for the latest issue of Boy’s LOVE, which can be found here with story samples and more information. Delicious Takao Hiroi cover! I wasn’t expecting that—for some reason I was under the impression that it would be Sakira this time. But oh well, either artist is great so I have nothing to complain about. It will probably be a while before they also add BOY’S Pierce’s information as well, but they tweeted the cover early here! A very beautiful, soft image by Mio Junta. I was originally thinking I wouldn’t buy this issue (since I tend to purchase for Ootsuki or Aniya where Pierce is concerned and both of them are absent) but the cover is oh so tempting.
♔ → Then lastly, not 100% BL-related but ITAN has posted the cover for its upcoming release this month. Very colorful—ITAN’s covers are never a let-down. They also blogged about Kumota Haruko and Bikke just like they did previously with Nangoku Banana and Ishino Aya and many of the other artists they publish, so if you are interested in their ITAN stories then please check those out. I’m still trying very hard to wait patiently for them to blog about Aniya Yuiji as well.
♔ → In life after J.Garden, Moegi Yuu, Takaoka Nanaroku and Nekota Yonezou’s hilariously-titled doujinshi brap has taken Chill Chill’s top spot for the doujinshi ranking! I know I personally would love to read it. :9 In happy news for me, Munya Munya Sue’s Ori Ori Toji Toji has taken the #2 spot. Go go go Ogura Muku and Kobato Mebaru!
♔ → In other Ogura Muku news, both of her upcoming novel releases have supposedly been pushed back. I’m not exactly sure why??
♔ → In yet more Ogura Muku news, she has the cover of HertZ this month! So beautiful. This HertZ volume looks absolutely amazing: Kojima Lalako, Konjiki Luna, Yamamoto Kotetsuko, Matsumoto Miecohouse, Kinoshita Keiko, Yamanaka Hiko and Yamada Yugi. Hnnggg yes please.
♔ → As for other magazines I’m looking forward to, the latest issue of BOY’S Pierce looks incredibly promising. Finally! Something new by Gojoe Tiger! I couldn’t possibly be more excited, seriously.
♔ → For those who don’t know, there’s a new anthology called ITAN that has a lot of BL manga authors in it. I don’t think it’s a BL anthology, though, so I bought it just to figure out what the hell it’s about. I’m assuming it’s josei. But Kumota Haruko and Aniya Yuiji are both in it, as well as Ishino Aya, Nangoku Banana and Bikke. It’ll be an interesting read, I’m sure.
♔ → More on Kumota Haruko, she got a twitter account!
What she talks about is veeery cute, so if you like Kumota Haruko and can understand Japanese I recommend following her.
